Between July and October, a special natural spectacle unfolds: sea turtles laying their eggs in the warm sand, and the hatchlings venturing into the sea just a few weeks later. From February to May, humpback whales and their calves can be spotted right off the coast.
Sal Rei, the capital, is cozy and almost sleepy – with colorful colonial houses, a harbor filled with fishing boats, souvenir shops, and water sports. In the evening, the town comes alive: music, local cuisine, and authentic island life. Experience African nights under a clear starry sky with the Milky Way stretching over the ocean. Nature in its most beautiful form (and no dangerous animals).
Tip: The island is best explored with a rental car – the mobile network and 4G are available almost everywhere.
